The happy-go-lucky jam finds Classified paying the price from a wild weekend on the sing-song hook, “It’s the weekend on the East Coast, got a little crazy last night/ Woke up in the backseat of a rowboat/ No clothes, no phone, comatose.”
Snoop Dogg two-steps in with a Friday-friendly verse, where he raps, “See, it’s a Monday or fun day and one day, I’ll quit/ But until then, my n—-, we gon just get lit ‘cause it’s the weekend.”
The piano-driven backdrop was a sample Classified found from an artist out of Nova Scotia. “I wanted to make a song that appealed to people from different walks of life, whether you’re a hip hop head, a guy who goes to work everyday, or a college student working through school,” he tells Billboard. “We all deal with different pressures in life and all have different ways of dealing with them.”
He also explains of recruiting Snoop and his West Coast/ East Coast shout outs, “With the East Coast/West Coast theme in the chorus, I wanted someone from the West Coast on the record to rep that side. Who better then the legend himself, Snoop Dogg?”
