CJ Fly, a member of the Brooklyn-based Pro Era crew that also boasts Joey Bada$$, among others, unveils the first single off his upcoming album FLYTRAP called “Now You Know,” which Billboard premieres below.
The atmospheric new cut features a woozy hook that sandwiches a single, rapid-fire verse from CJ, serving as a personal statement of sorts: “Only 22, so I’m in my prime / Made it here without committing crimes / Makin’ paper on some different lines / Took my life and put it in these rhymes.”
“‘Now You Know’ represents that moment you empower yourself after being shitted on or screwed over,” CJ explains about the track. “I freestyled the entire song, and it captured how I was feeling at that moment in my life.”
FLYTRAP, the follow up to CJ’s last release Thee Way Eye See It, is due out this fall via Pro Era/Cinematic Music Group. He’ll be out in L.A. today (Sept. 23) for an event to promote his new capsule collection with ZANEROBE, an Australian streetwear brand, which will feature a shirt with lyrics from “Now You Know” as well. Check out the track above and the single art, designed by Sur Niles and Nathan Cyr, below.
