Hip-hop runs strong in the Combs family. Christian “King” Combs — third child to Diddy, who has five Hot 100 No 1. hits to his ever-changing names — released a ten-song mixtape Wednesday (Apr. 11) on his SoundCloud. Entitled 90’s Baby, the mixtape blends classic elements of both East Coast and West Coast hip-hop, mirroring how his upbringing in the former has translated into his current lifestyle in the latter.
Combs’ sound maintains a surprisingly nostalgic aura for hip-hop aficionados, especially considering he was only born in 1998. The classic essence is even evident in the album cover art: a totally aww-worthy, never-before-seen throwback photo of a young Combs with his father before a show.
Of course, Diddy had to spread his love and support for his son’s new project with an Instagram shoutout. “My son @KingCombs just dropped his first mixtape. I’m so proud of him!!!” Diddy captioned the post of the album art.
There’s nothing quite like keeping it in the family. Listen to Combs’ retro vibes on his 90’s Baby mixtape below.
