Comedian Chris D’Elia was elated when he found out Eminem and Logic decided to sample his viral imitation of Slim Shady’s rapping style on the outro of their dynamic lyrical “Homicide” collaboration. When promoting the track on Tuesday (May 7), Em challenged D’elia to a rap battle, which the comic happily accepted.
“Slim Shady himself called me out?! I accept,” D’Elia wrote. The post included his tweet back to Eminem featuring a selfie of him with a trunk full of napkins, playing off of his Sept. 2018 video mocking the Detroit native’s flow.
The Congratulations podcast host recently relayed to Billboard that he refused to take a cut for the rap stars’ use of his video. “I was like, ‘Nah, don’t do that, just give it to ’em, it’s fine,” he said. “I don’t care, man. It’s a huge honor. I have money coming in other ways. I don’t need that.”
Regardless, D’Elia wants everyone to know he’s been a devoted fan of Em’s for years. “I was doing it from a place of love — so many rappers take themselves so seriously, so when they show some humility or poke fun of themsleves it goes a long way,” the 39-year-old comedian explained.
