Charles Jenkins reveals the next step in his self-coined Positive Air Movement as he encourages people to “Reach for the Sky” in a new video premiering today (March 10) via Billboard. The upbeat track, co-produced by Jenkins and Grammy Award-winning producer Warryn Campbell (Kanye West, Mary Mary), is the follow-up to hit single “Winning.” Both tracks are featured on his latest album, Think About These Things (Inspired People/Empire).
“My previous albums, The Best of Both Worlds and Any Given Sunday had more traditional Sunday morning sing-along songs,” says Jenkins. “I was inspired to do a fun album with positive/inspirational music that you can work out to, have fun with your kids to or be inspired with while still getting the big beats and big hooks. This song is designed to get you feeling good, thinking good and doing good beyond your wildest dreams.”
The video was shot by director Rita Lee in Chicago on the grounds of her estate. And its helicopter scene—in which Jenkins rides in a helicopter with no doors—was shot at the Vertigo Chicago heliport. Lee also introduced Jenkins to his new manager, KWL Enterprises founder Kevin Liles.
“Charles Jenkins challenges those around him to thrive in change,” says Liles, whose roster includes Trey Songz and D’Angelo. “I wanted to work with Charles because of his track record and being a voice of positive air in a very negative world right now.”
In addition to charting two top five Gospel Digital Songs singles (“Awesome,” “War”), Jenkins has scored two No. 1 albums on the Top Gospel Albums chart with the aforementioned The Best of Both Worlds and Any Given Sunday. The singer/songwriter and Fellowship Chicago pastor is also launching a Positive Air Anti-Violence campaign in the Windy City. The campaign will feature grassroots efforts, youth programs and various special events. Jenkins is also working on a new book, Positive Air, that’s slated for release in late 2017/early 2018.
