MisterWives has given covered Chance the Rapper‘s Coloring Book track “Same Drugs” an indie-pop cover, putting their pop vocals twist on the soul powered rap song, including the chorus-like backgrounds.
The band is clearly a fan of the hip-hop artist, calling “Same Drugs” one of their “favorite songs.” Lead singer Mandy Lee told Pitchfork that MisterWives was enthralled with the song’s musical composition and lyrics.
“‘Coloring Book’ has been on repeat in the MW household for months now and Chance in our opinion is one of the most talented and unique artists of our generation,” said Lee. “We couldn’t help but cover a tune off the record since it’s all we’ve been listening to and ‘Same Drugs’ was one we gravitated towards most between the message and the musical arrangement. We hope y’all like it and Chance, if you’re reading this please release the Regina Spektor version so we can die happy.”
Chance the Rapper had previously tweeted he regretted cutting Spektor from the final version of “Same Drugs.” The rapper, although was happy with the MisterWives cover tweeting that the ballad of the rap song “made [his] heart smile.”
