When Chance the Rapper gifted his fans four new songs earlier this month, he honestly didn’t expect his new tunes to have such a splashy impact.
On Wednesday (Aug. 1), Chano was hit with a pleasant surprise, as he learned that his new song “I Don’t Need Security” landed on the Billboard Hot 100 this week at No. 60 (chart dated Aug. 4).
“WOAH WOAH WOAH. This aint supposed to be on @billboard. This is ridiculous,” Chance wrote on Instagram, adding that he might just be inspired enough to get back in the studio: “I understand how badly u guys want new music now, headed to the lab.”
The sample-heavy record finds Chance landing a series of haymakers at his detractors, most notably, Chicago Mayor, Rahm Emanuel. “I mean I’m only 25 but I’m Motown 25/Bet I get a statue in my hometown when I die/And Rahm, you done, I’m expectin’ resignation/An open investigation on all of these paid vacations for murderers,” the Coloring Book MC raps.

In his June interview with Peter Rosenberg, Chance revealed his studio plans with Kanye West, which includes a forthcoming seven-track album with the revered producer. “Kanye’s my favorite rapper that I followed, you know, without knowing for a long time, and Donald Glover’s the first rapper that ever was like, you know, ‘Come on tour with me, I like your shit that no one’s ever heard of…I want you to come out on the road with me,'” Chano said.
