Cardi B is busy in the lab working on new tracks for the eagerly anticipated follow-up to her full-length label debut, Invasion of Privacy. But in the meantime, she gave fans a treat on Monday (Nov. 18) when she dropped a brief freestyle to remind us who the boss is.
Wearing a white tank top and posted up next to a stack of snacks, Vienna sausages and sandwich bags, Cardi jumps right into in during the one minute flow, licking a finger and rapping, “I be in the mansion, you be in my mentions / I came right out the trenches to the top of the charts / Lost friends on the way / This s–t is breaking my heart / ‘Bout 30 seconds in I’m like where do I start / I don’t act I’m a hustler just playing my part,” giving a shout-out to her co-starring role in the Jennifer Lopez film.
“Just a little something something… hair on healthy,” she wrote in the caption of what she calls “a little something until I finish the album,” ending with a tongue-wagging shout of “suck my d–k!”
So far this year Cardi has appeared as a judge on Netflix’s Rhythm + Flow, dropped the solo single “Press” and offered up guest verses on songs from Ed Sheeran (“South of the Border”), Lil Nas X (“Rodeo”) and French Montana (“Writing on the Wall”). In a recent chat with Billboard, Cardi said, “My album is on my mind 24/7. It’s practically all I’m focusing on.” She said she’s faced some creative challenges along the way, but will not be deterred.
“There’s certain music that I want to do, but I feel like, is people interested in that? I feel like things have changed. It’s more like a twerk sound going on right now. It’s just like, ‘Should I just do my music around that?’ But I cannot just go with what’s hot. I still gotta go with what I want to do,” she said.
