Cardi B is on top of the world right now. Over the past few weeks, the Bronx rapper unleashed her debut album, announced her pregnancy, co-hosted The Jimmy Fallon Show and performed at Coachella — and shows no signs of hitting pause anytime soon.
Cardi took some time out of her hectic schedule to pay Ellen DeGeneres a visit on Wednesday (April 18) to discuss her hallmark year, including the Saturday Night Live pregnancy announcement and twerking while pregnant at Coachella.
Cardi charmed Ellen from the moment she joined her on stage with her quirkiness and humor, especially when she explained how she felt before spilling the beans about her pregnancy on Saturday Night Live. She told Ellen that she was a bit calmer during her first performance, but when it was time to hit the stage the second time around, she was “sweating, my underarms started itching a little bit because it’s like, ‘Oh my God, the world is gonna know I’m pregnant.'”
Ellen moved on to talk Cardi’s much-buzzed-about Coachella performance. “It looks like you’re getting ready to give birth right there,” Ellen quipped. Cardi replied, “They say the more you move, the easier it will come out,” adding that she was “just trying to show the world how I got pregnant in the first place” — pointing to the screen where she was crouched down on the stage dancing to “She Bad” with YG.
Elsewhere in the interview, Cardi revealed that she and Offset have already settled on a name, which Offset chose himself. “My dude named the baby, I really like the name,” Cardi teased. She said she’s leaving it up to Offset to reveal the “tricky” baby name, however, the talk show host offered to pay the rapper $20,000 to name the baby “Ellen,” to which Cardi hilariously replied, “Can I put it as the middle name?”
Since releasing Invasion of Privacy earlier this month, Cardi has shattered Apple Music’s streaming record for first-week streams by a female artist, a record that was previously held by Taylor Swift. The “Best Life” rapper is up for a slew of awards at this year’s Billboard Music Awards, including top new artist, top female artist, and top streaming artist.
