Buddy‘s Harlan & Alondra 12-track debut album was one of the more criminally underrated projects of 2018. The Compton native kicked off the new year by flying across the country to NPR’s D.C. offices for the latest installment of their Tiny Desk Concert series, uploaded on Wednesday (Jan. 9).
The 25-year-old brought along a jazzy four-piece live band and a soothing background vocalist to assist in the performance. Buddy raised the energy in the building by starting off his set with “Legend,” prompting the audience to use their voice and get involved. “I need y’all help right now. Could y’all help me?” he asked.
Buddy then moved into the rest of his four-track medley of Harlan & Alondra cuts including “Trouble on Central,” the Ty Dolla $ign-assisted “Hey Up There,” and “Real Life S**t” to finish off the concise 11-minute set of music that’s perfect to be riding around in your car with.
