Boogie‘s anticipated debut album, Everything’s for Sale, arrived on streaming services Friday (Jan. 25). The public seemed to champion his “Soho” collaboration alongside Dreamville’s J.I.D. fairly quickly, prompting the Compton-bred MC to drop off the track’s visual just mere days later (Jan. 28).
The wacky clip goes from fun to repulsive in a matter of seconds, as the duo cycle through a number of wardrobe changes and even undergo some transformations to their facial structure during the photo shoot thanks to a few talented makeup artists and added special effects.
Boogie starts off enjoying a plate of spaghetti, but swiftly moves to posing with a grill and fake braids, while J.I.D. raps about the fallacies of the industry wearing a mummy mask. “Like the usual, know I ain’t meeting at Nobu/ Or going for Sushi at Roku/ I motherfucking told you/ I’m sick of these n—-s/ Who wanna be all in the videos, in the photos/ I think I should sign to Death Row though,” the ATLien rhymes.
The 29-year-old detailed to Billboard in an interview that the one thing he wanted listeners to pull from the album is that he’s actually a self-destructive individual. “I think my fans sometimes put me on a pedestal because of the way everybody else is rapping, and they don’t think I’m a drug head but I really be fucking up a lot,” Boogie explained. “I just want people to understand that you need to really reflect on yourself and really take that time to sit with yourself and understand what’s wrong and acknowledge it. You’ll grow from it.”
