Picture this: It’s the end of summer, and you and your friends decide to celebrate with a big party. But little did you know that your biggest crush would soon be walking in the door. Black Party, a rising Arkansas-born R&B singer, knows that feeling all too well in the video for his new single “Dancing.”
Exclusively premiering on Billboard today (Sept. 24), the Dylan McGale-directed visual follows Black Party throughout a laid-back house party in Los Angeles as he hangs out with skateboarders and DJs a few tunes. He soon bumps into his dream girl, and they begin to flirt just before the party escalates in an unexpected way.
“The idea was to loosely play upon Harmony Korine’s film, Kids,” the singer explains to Billboard. “We wanted to show both men and women’s perspective of the same house party and include a nod to skate culture, which I’ve always loved. The story follows the struggle of modern-day romance, where meeting in real life in the digital age leaves room for follow-through. Hoping people will love dancing to this track and will relate to the fun and torture of meeting someone new.”
“Dancing” is the latest from Black Party’s major-label debut Endless Summer. It follows the DMP Jefe-assisted “No Complaints” and “4AM in NY” featuring Anajah. The artist scored a major co-sign from Childish Gambino earlier this year, who signed Black Party to his Wolf + Rothstein label in partnership with RCA Records.
