The fourth annual 2019 Black Music Honors took place live from Atlanta’s Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre last Thursday (Sept. 5). Timeless artists were honored throughout the night, which included the likes of Xscape, who received the Urban Music Icon Award, Tamia, Freddie Jackson, Arrested Development, and Yolanda Adams.
Fans in attendance were also treated to a surplus of memorable performances from Avery Wilson, Dee-1, Jade Novah, Jagged Edge, Jekalyn Carr, Naughty By Nature, June’s Diary, Keke Wyatt, Kelly Price, Le’Andria Johnson, Melanie Fiona and 702.
After Rickey Smiley and actress LeToya Luckett-Walker retired hosting duties for the night, event founder Don Jackson took the stage with a reminder of why an event like this is so important. “The Black Music Honors gives us an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of the trailblazers of African-American music,” he said.
The award show will begin airing on Sept. 14 and is slated to air in full on Bounce TV on Oct. 20. Head to the Black Music Honors website for more information.
