Beyoncé unveiled her latest visual album, Black Is King, at 3:00 a.m. on Friday (July 31) and famous members of the Beyhive are buzzing over the much-hyped release.
“Beyoncé, thats it send tweet,” wrote Zara Larsson on Twitter upon seeing the film, while Queen Bey’s proteges Chloe x Halle tweeted, “black is king really comes out tonight omg” leading up to the premiere.
And speaking of premieres, Lizzo threw her very own premiere party at home to celebrate the release of Black Is King, and documented the entire thing on her Instagram Stories. The affair came complete with a shimmering black carpet, a “What Would Beyoncé Do?” cake and catering by Munchies Vegan Diner.
Based on the superstar’s 2019 album The Lion King: The Gift (itself a companion piece to Disney’s live-action remake of The Lion King in which Beyoncé voiced Nala), Black Is King features collaborations with Jay-Z, Childish Gambino, Tierra Whack and a litany of rising African artists, as well as appearances by the likes of Lupita Nyong’o, Naomi Campbell, Kelly Rowland and more.
Black Is King is now available to stream on Disney+. The visual album is accompanied by a deluxe edition of The Lion King: The Gift, which adds three new tracks and eliminates the audio snippets from the live action Lion King film.
