A new squad of Beyonce advocates are getting in formation for a counter-protest against an anti-Bey rally criticizing the singer’s Super Bowl 50 halftime show performance of her black power anthem “Formation.”
An unnamed organizer revealed plans of hosting a protest in an EventBrite post that surfaced on Wednesday (Feb. 10). “Are you offended as an American that Beyoncé pulled her race-baiting stunt at the Superbowl?,” it read. “Do you agree that it was a slap in the face to law enforcement? Do you agree that the Black Panthers was/is a hate group which should not be glorified? Come and let’s stand together.”
Why Are People Suddenly Afraid of Beyonce’s Black Pride?
Now, Black Girl Rising has formed their own protest in response. “When Black women affirm Blackness/Black womanhood, they are attacked and silenced,” the organizer wrote in their EventBrite description. “This is a counter protest to a racist, historical attack on the Black Panther Party and Beyonce, plus an excuse to celebrate a very awesome song and #BlackGirlMagic moment.”
B.G.R. also encourages participants to “dress in your ‘Formation’ video/Super Bowl performance-inspired gear” while the Bey critics asked protestors to wear all blue and revealed that a press release will be shared on Friday (Feb. 12). Both rallies are expected to take place at the NFL’s Park Avenue headquarters in New York on Tuesday, Feb. 16.
