As part of Billboard’s Black Music Month celebration, we’ve asked Black artists spanning all genres to compile their own unique playlist exclusive to Billboard‘s Spotify account. Each song they’ve chose reflects their admiration for fellow artists — from previous generations to the new millennial era — who have made an impact on the culture. Today, R&B singer BJ The Chicago Kid shares his soundtrack.
“I love creating playlists because it allows me to show a balance in music selection. The perfect playlist contains a good mixture of turn up and mellow tracks,” BJ The Chicago Kid tells Billboard about his selection. “This one, in particular, takes me back and pushes me forward. It’s filled with black excellence from the sounds of Louis Armstrong all the way to Kendrick Lamar. These songs and artists remind me of how great we are, can be and most of all, the way we’re supposed to be. All these artists shine bright on and off the stage. Enjoy this musical journey with me, cause I’m listening too!”
BJ The Chicago Kid is gearing up for the release of his sophomore album 1123 (his birth date), which is slated to arrive this summer. The singer previously shared his “Time Today” single in anticipation of the record.
