It’s been nearly a year and a half since Lil Wayne first started publicly calling out Birdman and his record label Cash Money Records for refusing to release his long awaited 12th studio album, Tha Carter V. Now Birdman is saying it’s not his fault.
As evidence, Birdman pointed to the flow of music that Wayne has released himself, as well as on his Young Money Entertainment sublabel.
Lil Wayne Clocks Studio Time With Birdman But Lawsuit Reportedly Still On
“I think it’s more of a misunderstanding than money issue,” he told Ebro and Laura Stylez of Hot 97’s Ebro in the Morning. “If you knew me you’d know I always gave Wayne anything and everything he always wanted. Our train is still moving. Drake just put out an album. Niki’s in the studio. The train’s still moving. I think it’s a lot of misunderstanding and me and him talk but you’d best believe that situation’s gonna work itself out.”
The Cash Money co-founder continued, saying that while their relationship has changed he still wants him in his life and he won’t let the music or the money get between him and his “son” Wayne. And though there does seem to be a financial aspect to the stalled record release, Birdman said he would never interfere with Wayne’s creativity or creative output.

“Whatever he want, I’m fine with. I ain’t gonna stop him, I’m gonna embrace it. Wayne is a boss,” said Birdman. “I would never stop him from doing nothing. He’s still putting out records, I could stop that shit if I wanted to. I ain’t gonna stop him from hustling.”
