Iconic New York DJ Big Kap has reportedly passed away. The news was first shared by Funkmaster Flex on his Instagram.
Gone But Not Forgotten: In Memoriam 2016
“Rest in peace…. Big Kap…,” Flex wrote under a photo of Kap and another of the two DJs together. The duo helmed the legendary 1999 The Tunnel album, which featured a slew of big acts including Jay Z, Lil’ Kim, Memphis Bleek, Mary J. Blige and the late Tupac and Notorious B.I.G.
The hip-hop community also took to timelines to share their memories of Kap and offer their condolences.
“Woke up to terrible news today … We lost Big Kap,” wrote Hot 97’s Peter Rosenberg. “Not only a great DJ, key part of the flip squad and big dog pit bulls , and incredible talker with a unique and awesome voice but more than anything — great guy …always good for a warm smile and a sincere conversation… Was always very fond of this guy ever since I met him .. RIP brother… Sending love and positive vibes to his family, @funkflex , @ciphasoundsand all the pit bulls and flip squad.”
