Multi-talented singer, songwriter, rapper and drummer Bianca Shaw shows off her talents on her debut EP Exhale, premiering exclusively on Billboard today (March 7).
The seven-track project is a fusion of different sounds, ranging from upbeat disco elements to blends of pop, hip-hop and R&B. The album showcases Shaw’s versatility as both a singer and a rapper, whose raw voice uniquely shines on every track.
“This project is about relating to that feeling of being out of control and how I personally experience that unbalance — things that aren’t discussed in public often,” Shaw tells Billboard. “This is me, in all facets, finally not afraid to express myself freely.”
Expressing herself freely is one thing Shaw has strived to make unique about herself. She started off her 2019 on a high note with the release of her “Bipolar” music video. Now, she’s continuing to put herself on the radar this year with her new project, which proves to be a barrier-breaker that successfully encompasses a refreshing sound.
Discovered by Kenneth Bennett (senior adviser at T.B.E and Chance the Rapper‘s father), Shaw has worked closely with Chance’s brother Taylor Bennett, and is now signed to his label Tay Bennett Entertainment. Most recently, she collaborated on Bennett’s tracks “So High” and “Be Yourself.”
Heavily inspired by Missy Elliott’s authenticity, Shaw paves her own lane in expressing herself creatively, describing the main concepts of her album as “a breath of fresh air.”
“Imagine saying whatever you wanted to say. Something you’ve been holding in for a while — you would feel a breath of fresh air letting it go,” Shaw tells Billboard of Exhale. “Everything that you’ve been holding in, you just let go. You say ‘fuck it’.”
