Motown icon Diana Ross rang in her 75th birthday with an appropriately grand celebration on Tuesday (March 26), complete with an impromptu rendition of “Happy Birthday” from guest Beyoncé.
The star-studded gathering took place at the notable Hollywood club Warwick, and later moved to the Hollywood Palladium. Apart from Bey, the guest list included Ross’ daughter and actress Tracee Ellis Ross, son Evan Ross with wife Ashlee Simpson, Motown founder Berry Gordy, Sean “Diddy” Combs, DJ Khalid, French Montana, Kris Jener, Khloe Kardashian and Kourtney Kardashian.
In a video posted on Khloe Kardashian’s Instagram Story, Beyoncé is seen wearing a black dress with a pulled back, long braided hairdo as she sings a stripped-down version of the birthday song to Ross.
Combs, Tracee and others gathered around Ross in front of what Tracee called “the biggest cake ever” in another clip, leading up to the moment in which the Blackish actress asks Beyoncé to sing for her mother.
Ross, wearing a bedazzled silver gown, twirls as Beyoncé sings the tune. “Thank you, thank you, thank you,” she says after the song.
Beyoncé has serenaded the “Upside Down” singer before, with Destiny’s Child performing their own rendition of the classic 1980s disco track during VH1’s Divas Live tribute concert to Ross in 2000.
