After making news last month as one of the few pairs of solo siblings to score No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200, Beyoncé and Solange find themselves part of another elite group: the EBONY Power 100. The sisters are two of the nine music notables featured on the 2016 tally being revealed today: Chance the Rapper, Lupe Fiasco, Donald Glover, Killer Mike, John Legend, Nas and The Weeknd.
To celebrate this year’s theme of “power in numbers,” EBONY is also unveiling four special covers featuring Legend, Nas, director Ava DuVernay and gymnast Simone Biles. The magazine’s 31st annual list salutes such additional game-changing individuals as San Franciscio 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, breakout television star Issa Rae, comedian Kevin Hart, tennis champion Serena Williams, New York Knicks small forward Carmelo Anthony and president of the Nike brand Trevor Edwards.
“These 100 individuals are not only authoring their own success stories, they are leveraging their platforms in order to improve various facets of black life and render us visible on the world stage,” said EBONY editor-in-chief, senior VP and head of digital editorial Kyra Kyles in a statement. “This issue reflects how important it is for our influencers to be focused on our collective community and also on opening doors for others. This is a philosophy our cover stars embody. Power is nothing if it is not shared.”
The 2016 EBONY Power 100 will appear in the magazine’s December issue. See the full list on EBONY.com here.
