Jay Z is New York through and through, growing up in Brooklyn and writing “Empire State of Mind,” an epic ode to his hometown. And even though Beyonce started out in Houston, she’s made NY her home since marrying Jay in 2008 — and her initials are even BK. The Los Angeles Times is reporting, however, that the Carter-Knowles family has been touring L.A. real estate recently, after enjoying a month-long stay in a rental mansion over the summer.
Could they be making their West Coast stay permanent? As a Los Angeles-based editor, I hope so. Even if they keep their place in New York and go bicoastal, the idea of Beyonce and Jay Z setting up shop in SoCal has its perks.
Below, the six reasons we hope this real-estate rumor is real:
L.A. can get its very own “Empire State of Mind.” “Golden State of Mind” has a ring to it…
Beyonce and Tina Knowles can open a Dash-like boutique. It will be called Now (found in the middle of their last name, just like the Kardashians and Dash!). Obviously, the store will get its own reality show, and pretty soon Blue Ivy will be a runway model like Kendall Jenner.
Jay can bring a football team to L.A. He already has the NBA covered with the Brooklyn Nets, so he can make a move into the NFL by finally bringing professional football back to Los Angeles.
They can headline Coachella together. Jay Z and Beyonce both popped in on the Indio, Calif., festival this year (Jay with Nas and Bey with sister Solange), and Jay got an assist from his wife during his set in 2010. But now that the fest is just a two-hour drive away (or, more likely, a half-hour helicopter ride), they should head to the desert for their first co-headlining set.
Jay can trade in his Yankees hat for a Dodgers cap. But he can rock the B logo from the Brooklyn Dodgers days, so he’s still repping his hometown. He’ll make the Dodgers hat more famous than a Dodger can.
More Jay Z and Beyonce sightings. Obviously, the number-one reason to get excited.
