After Beyoncé gave birth to twins in 2017, her goal was to get back into shape for her Coachella performance in 2018. What she did to reach that goal was lightly touched on in her 2019 documentary Homecoming, but in a video uploaded on Wednesday (June 24), she goes into it with more detail.
The clip, entitled “22 Days Nutrition,” begins with Bey stepping on the scale and revealing her weight (175 lbs). “Good morning, it’s 5:00 a.m., and this is day one of rehearsals for Coachella,” she says. “Every woman’s nightmare…this is my weight. Long way to go.”
Bey teamed up with her friend and trainer, Marco Borges, who is also an exercise physiologist and New York Times Best Selling author as well as the creator of 22 Days Nutrition. He is seen teaching the importance of a plant-based diet to both the star and her whole crew, explaining, “We know the power of vegetables. We know the power of plants. We know the power of foods that are unprocessed and as close to nature as possible.”
“When you’re eating plant-based you will definitely have more energy, you will definitely sleep better…your mood is going to change completely,” he continues.
Beyoncé, who followed the 22-day program for 44 days in order to reach her goals, shares: “I was a woman that felt like my body was not mine.”
“It’s time to work, so I have to get in that zone, it’s like a different head space,” she continues. “Me getting the weight off was so much easier than getting back in shape and my body feeling comfortable.”
