Canadian artists have surged to the top of charts, and have long established themselves amongst America’s top acts. The newest face to emerge from north of the border is Belly, whose resume is far from that of a rookie’s. Adding to his growing list of projects, Belly has released his newest offering, Inzombia, a mixtape with guest appearances from a few of hip-hop biggest names.
The cryptic ,Weeknd-esque “Die Alone” introduces Inzombia, later expanding into the trap-laden “The Day That I Met You” and street anthem “Trap Phone,” with Jadakiss‘ gritty east coast flavor weaved into the arrangement. Future bursts through, lively as always, on “Frozen Water,” as the two spit about dripping in diamonds. Thugger‘s usual animated vocals are stripped down and morphed into a haunting demon-like sound as the two fly to the islands in “Consuela”. Ty Dolla $ign and Ashanti also appear later on in the project.
Belly’s Inzombia follows previously released singles “You” (featuring Kehlani) and “Ballerina”. The Canadian rhymer co-authored Beyonce’s “6 Inch” off the acclaimed album Lemonade, featuring fellow Canadian The Weeknd. “Although this was my biggest year musically, a lot of crazy things happened to me,” Belly said during an interview with Zane Lowe earlier this week. “I felt like I needed a whole body of work to just get it out there and explain my feelings and my side of the story.”
