UPDATE: After briefly going private and losing its verification, Azealia Banks’ Twitter account is public. She’s retweeting people voicing support for her as well as the following, which indicates she’s not interested in the discussion on her use of the homophobic term.

Azealia Banks, the Harlem rapper known as much for her music as her Twitter rants, has made her account private shortly after a video surfaced of her yelling a homophobic slur while on an airplane.
Not only is Banks’ account now private, but it is also noticeably missing the verified blue check mark. Banks’ account has over 567,000 followers; her name is currently a trending Twitter topic in the United States. Billboard reached out to a rep for Banks for comment.
According to the Twitter support website, an account can lose its verification after making changes to the account or violating Twitter terms of service.
“Changing certain profile information (such as the @ username or protecting Tweets) will result in the removal of a verified badge. That account will automatically be reviewed again to ensure it is eligible for verification. An account may also lose its verified status if it violates the Twitter Rules or Terms of Service.”
TMZ obtained video of Banks directing a homophobic slur toward a flight attendant on a plane Monday night (Sept. 21), causing public outcry. Watch the video below
This isn’t the first time Banks has publicly used the homophobic f-word. In the midst of past controversies, she insisted she’s not homophobic while pointing out that she identifies as bisexual. .
