All controversy aside, Azealia Banks has #bars.
The Harlemite returned to her rap roots on Monday (June 5) with some dynamite called “Chi Chi.” “N—as, I be wildin’ for that cheddar, for that paper/ Island hoppin’ in Bahamas, helicopter to Jamaica,” she spits on the hook. “Puerto Rican papi got that product and that peso/ Get that perico on Broadway/ Chi Chi get the yayo.” As Genius points out, “Chi Chi get the yayo” is lifted from the 1983 classic Scarface.
Last year, the “212” rapper caught flak for various incidents, including hurling racial and homophobic slurs at Zayn Malik (she was booted from a U.K. festival, suspended on Twitter then later apologized) and accusing Russell Crowe of spitting on her.
Here’s to more bars and less beef in 2017.
