August Alsina took a nasty fall during his show Monday night at New York’s Irving Plaza.
According to sources at the venue, Alsina wandered off stage mid-song and dropped onto the crowd barrier. He didn’t return. The house DJ played on for a few moments before the announcement was made that the show was canceled. Alsina had apparently been in “fine form” prior to the incident. A fan has posted video of his tumble to Instagram (see below).
The New Orleans R&B artist’s career is on the rise. He’s just released a new video for “No Love” (Remix) featuring Nicki Minaj and he collected his first Billboard airplay chart-topper last October with “I Luv This Shit,” on which he’s co-billed with Trinidad James. “I Luv This Shit” peaked at No. 1 on the Nielsen BDS-based Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop airplay ranking.
It’s unclear whether Alsina’s upcoming Testimony tour dates will be affected. He’s due to play Bogart’s in Cincinnati, Ohio on Tuesday night, and his itinerary includes shows this coming Friday and Saturday.
Billboard has reached out to Alsina’s publicist for an update on his health. More to come.
