A$AP Rocky revealed he was hard at work on his new album to GQ, while gracing the cover of their 2017 holiday issue, and now he’s delivering with some brand-new music.
The 29-year-old posted snippets of unreleased music to his Instagram Stories on Thursday. Fans have speculated that the caption accompanying the new music, “Testing,” could possibly be Rocky teasing the title to his third studio album. It would make sense based on his quotes from the GQ profile, in which he explained that he would be experimenting with fresh sounds that are much different than what’s currently charting.
In the cover story, the Harlem native detailed the inspiration behind his first solo effort since 2015’s At. Long. Last. A$AP. “My new album is really about testing new sounds,” he said. “People are scared to test new sounds, so they go with what’s current, ’cause it’s the easy thing to do. I don’t just rap — I actually make music. That’s why it takes time. These sonics represent me.”
The new track begins with a dark sound, as the fashion icon’s voice eventually creeps in with a deep bellowing effect, before evolving into his conventional pitch. A$AP can be heard slowly rapping, “Heroin punch, cocaine up in her veins/ She dancing, acting strange/ Heroin punch, I ain’t for the games/ Smoking blunts, rolling paper planes, what you want.”
