A$AP Rocky hasn’t released a solo effort since 2015’s At. Long. Last. ASAP, which the ‘Pretty Flacko’ artist plans to change by year’s end. GQ tabbed the Under Armour designer to cover their 2017 Holiday issue in his second home of London.
Rocky is hard at work on his next album, after helping release the A$AP Mob’s Cozy Tapes Vol. 2 over the summer. When asked about the inspiration behind his upcoming project, the Harlem native said in an interview accompanying the cover, “My new album is really about testing new sounds. People are scared to test new sounds, so they go with what’s current, ’cause it’s the easy thing to do. I don’t just rap — I actually make music. That’s why it takes time. These sonics represent me.”
For the 28-year-old, it’s all about the music right now, as it’s his top priority in life after focusing on building up the ASAP Mob’s empire over the past year. Rocky explained at the moment, “Right now, it’s music. Last year was businesses and developing all our new artists. Playboi Carti went platinum. Smooky MarGielaa is on the rise. Twelvyy album came out. A$AP Ferg mixtape came out — he always got No. 1 and bangers. Nast, Addie, up next. Cozy Tapes Vol. 2 is out right now. Now it’s all about me making music again.”
