A$AP Rocky unleashed his experimental TESTING album to close out May, and the highly anticipated project is the Harlem native’s first LP since 2015. Rocky reminisced about not having A$AP Yams’ energy around and how this was the first album he’d have to craft without him in a clip that will appear in full on Fuse’s next episode of Complex x Fuse on June 13.
“It wasn’t the same without Yams. It’s with any legacy that loses a pioneer, you got to keep going. Yams is a spirit and an energy,” Rock says in a clip, exclusively premiering on Billboard ?today (June 8). “He was always about discovering talent and trying to put new people on. I think that’s what validated him in hip-hop and his knowledge of different genres and different music always helped.”
The A$AP Mob head honcho compared him losing Yams to how Diddy had to carry on after the loss of Biggie Smalls back in 1997. “We miss him. Rest in peace A$AP Yams. I think I had to do what Puff had to do when Biggie died,” the 29-year-old concluded.
The rest of the episode will delve deeper into the “A$AP Forever” rapper’s creative process from his new album. Hannibal Buress also makes a cameo to discuss working on 2 Broke Girls, The Eric Andre Show and much more. Lil Yachty gives fans a sneak peek into his lavish closet while Marlon Wayans stars in a new rendition of Delete Your History.
Make sure to check it all out on June 13 over on Fuse. For now, check out the clip of A$AP Rocky speaking on the legacy of A$AP Yams below.
