Chicago has birthed another talented aspiring rapper, Alex Wiley.
As like the entirety of his sophomore mixtape, Village Party (Closed Sessions, June 2014), Wiley’s latest single, “Splash Game (Self Doubt),” is laced with honest raps of the distrust that infiltrates when riding the wave of stardom.
“The song is about when you’re just doubting yourself and breaking out of it,” he tells Billboard’s The Juice. “For me, it’s this one phrase: ‘Damn, I’m doing this wrong. I should be doing this…’ And [then] I’ll be like, ‘Wait, I’m that ni–a.’ That just helps me snap back into the right train of thought.”
Wiley paired the single with a fun and compelling animated music video. Check it out below, premiered here on The Juice.
The video for the Blev-produced song is directed by Visual Mecca with animation by J-Spazz Art.
“We went to Toronto [while] on tour. We knew going there that we wanted to shoot a video because it’s a city we’ve all been looking forward to visiting,” he says of the music video. “We did some cool stuff around the city of Toronto and shot a music video, edited it creatively and had help from our homie to animate it. He added a lot of really cool shit to it. I really like the way it came out.”
