Sunday (Aug. 25) served as the 18th anniversary following Aaliyah’s tragic death from a fatal air plane crash in the Bahamas back in 2001. Many artists such as Kehlani, Ella Mai, as well as close friend and collaborator Missy Elliott paid tribute to Baby Girl with heartfelt posts to social media.
“Aaliyah it’s been 18 years now but your STYLE & MUSIC still continues to IMPACT all the generations behind you! May you rest In paradise in PEACE,” Elliott wrote. “You will NEVER be forgotten so MANY LOVE you Babygirl. WE ALL MISS YOU!”
“I always forget how young aaliyah was. rip to a REAL legend,” Kehlani penned, while Ella Mai thanked Aaliyah for the timeless inspiration over the years. “Rest in paradise aaliyah. thank you for all of your inspiration. we miss you,” the “Boo’d Up” singer said.
Last week (Aug. 22), an Aaliyah wax figure was unveiled at Madame Tussauds Las Vegas. Aaliyah’s official Twitter account released a statement on Monday (Aug. 26) calling out those who have already attempted to alter her look by changing her hairstyle and adding lip gloss to the wax figure.
