Gucci pulled their black “balaclava jumper” off shelves following backlash of how the design resembles blackface, but a number of rappers have spoken out regarding how they plan to boycott the designer from this point going forward. After slamming familiar foe Floyd Mayweather’s stance on the boycott, 50 Cent has decided to take action in his own way.
The Queens native posted a clip to Instagram Wednesday (Feb. 13) of him burning one of his Gucci t-shirts. “I gotta get rid of all the Gucci I have at home. I’m not supporting their brand anymore,” he wrote. Fifty starts the video by telling those around him to “just relax.” Things turn funny when he ignites the shirt with a lighter, but attempts to blow out the fire once the scalding garment is too hot to hold any longer.
His extensive Gucci wardrobe is seen laying on the ground by him in the video. The 43-year-old previously promised to donate the clothing to the homeless “so the right demo can wear it.”
Soulja Boy, Young Thug, T.I., and more have made a pledge to retire Gucci. “@gucci As a 7 figure/yr customer & long time supporter of your brand I must say…Y’all GOT US fucked UP!! APOLOGY NOT ACCEPTED!!!! We ain’t going for this ‘oops my bad I didn’t mean to be racist and disrespectful towards your people’ shit!!! Y’all knew wtf y’all was doin and WE AINT GOING FOR IT!!! We ALL GOTTA Stop buying, wearing, and supporting this piece of shit company,” Tip captioned his call-to-action.
