In an ongoing video series with Genius, 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne have revealed many things about their recent joint project CollegeGrove and their opinions in general, holding nothing back in the process. In part two of the series Lil Wayne called out fellow rappers, saying that “nobody know how to rap these days,” but in the newly released part three both Weezy and 2 Chainz gave some credit where they felt it due: CeeLo Green and his early hip-hop group Goodie Mob.
“CeeLo is still flourishing as an artist,” said 2 Chainz.
Wayne added: “I’ve been listening to Goodie Mob since I was in the 7th grade.”
The two rappers also praised OutKast for “setting the bar for Atlanta, getting us out of the booty shake, getting us to where people could actually listen to some lyrics, show creativity, have live instruments…”
On the topic of lyrics, 2 Chainz spoke to Genius about his own lyrics from “Section” off of the CollegeGrove EP, on which the artist raps about selling drugs to his mom.
“It’s something that I still cannot even really comfortably talk about,” 2 Chainz said in the series’ fourth video.
“I’m gonna give you a scenario,” he continued, before asking listeners to picture that they lived in a “drug-infested neighborhood where people can actually go up the street and get dope.”
“Imagine you’re staying in this neighborhood and you’re dealing with somebody in your family that you love very much having a habit that you or them can’t control,” he said. “It’s stuff that n**gas will never understand and for me smiling every day releases those little pain enzymes that I’ve been through coming up in section 8 and dealing what I had to deal with. I’m still not comfortable talking about this shit because it’s some fucked-up shit that a lot of you n**gas wouldn’t even understand.”
