03 Greedo turned himself into Texas authorities on June 28 to begin his lengthy 20-year sentence. The extended sojourn stems from a 2016 arrest on various gun and drug trafficking charges. Before starting his incarceration, the Watts-bred rapper delivered the 27-track God Level as one of the 30 albums he’s promised fans throughout 2018.
Greedo’s first release inside the pen comes in the form of the Porter2Grape joint EP with Nef The Pharaoh. Now, Billboard is exclusively streaming the 5-track project ahead of its worldwide release on Friday (July 13).
Following the successful release of the collab effort’s lead single “Ball Out,” the California duo delivers four additional tracks, showing how meshing contrasting flows can result in quality music if done properly.
03 had been eyeing a joint project alongside Nef for a while now. “Nef and I met on the set of a video for D-Lo. I have roots in Northern California too and have been knowing about Nef for a while, so it was good to finally do a whole project with him,” the 30-year-old relays.
The Bay Area spitter jokes that Greedo hit him about crafting another five tracks together on top of what they already had. “It was really dope working with him. We both freestyle so it was cool to see how he works, plus our voices sound raw as fuck together. [03 Greedo] just messaged me saying we need to get five more tracks in,” Nef quips.
