Will Smith shared a touching tribute to his oldest son Trey on Instagram in the form of a video post on Tuesday (Nov. 27).
Smith reflects on his recent trip to Abu Dhabi with Trey in the clip, growing teary-eyed when he brings up the heartfelt comment his 26-year-old son said to him during their trip. “You’re not just my dad,” Trey told Smith. “I’m pretty sure you’re my best friend.”
In the post’s caption, Smith also reveals hat his relationship with Trey hasn’t always been this easy. “We struggled for years after my divorce from his mother,” Smith writes. “He felt betrayed & abandoned. It is a wild blessing to recover & restore a loving relationship with my beautiful son!”
Trey was born during Smith’s previous marriage to Sheree Zampino, which lasted from 1992 to 1995. Smith has two other children, Jaden and Willow, with his wife of almost 21 years, Jada Pinkett Smith.
