America’s Got Talent has hosted its fair share of emotional performances in its past 12 seasons, and so far, there’s already no shortage of misty eyes during the the premiere of season 13.
The season’s first episode, which airs Tuesday (May 29), sees Oregonian sibling band We Three earn their first standing O from the crowd. 27-year-old Joshua, 24-year-old Bethany and 21-year-old Manny approach the judges proudly with their father just offstage and a group of family members in the audience, prepared to cheer the young trio on.
However, there’s one family member missing to witness We Three’s audition: their mother, who singer/guitarist Manny explains passed away from cancer two years ago. The original song they perform — written from their mother’s perspective — is a chill-inducing, driving rock ballad that flawlessly exemplifies Manny’s raw vocals and the band’s familial harmony.
Already reminiscent of an Adult Contemporary radio earworm, the tune elicits tears from judge Mel B, and likely many more from viewers.
