After having their cake and eating it too thanks to the infectious smash “Cake By The Ocean,” DNCE — the pop quartet comprised of Joe Jonas, guitarist JinJoo Lee, bass guitarist Cole Whittle and drummer Jack Lawless — continues to toast to their accomplishments.
Before grabbing the Moonman for Best New Artist at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night (Aug. 28), DNCE two-stepped over to Billboard on the white carpet to discuss their song of the summer pick.
“I’d have to say our fellow nominee Desiigner,” Jonas offered of the Brooklyn MC, who was also nominated for Best New Artist after his debut hit “Panda” tore up the Hot 100 all the way to No. 1 earlier this year. “He had quite the amazing song. The guy kills it every time he gets up on that stage. He wilds out and that’s what we love.”
No strangers to the turn-up, DNCE also performed for the Bud Light Party Convention alongside sets from G-Eazy and Big Sean at New York’s PlayStation Theater less than 24 hours prior and even partied the G.O.O.D. Music rapper afterwards. When asked if a potential collaboration could happen, Jonas said, “Yeah, that’d be sweet. We were able to perform with ILoveMakonnen and that dude goes off. We had a blast with him.”
He then joked, “I could see [Big Sean] was a little jealous of the mic so we may have to get him on a DNCE song.”
