
Kelly Clarkson has said recording “It’s Quiet Uptown” for The Hamilton Mixtape was one of the hardest things she’s ever done. But if you see her recent live performance of it from the Honda Stage at iHeartRadio NY you’ll understand by creator Lin-Manuel Miranda picked her for the project. Performing with some understated piano backing, the mother of two made the Broadway tune — about dealing with the “unimaginable” death of a child– into something resembling one of her own signature moving pop ballads.

Clarkson also swung by the finale of The Voice on Tuesday night (Dec. 13) to perform the song with finalist Billy Gilman and a string quartet. And… killed it again.
