Vance Joy will be playing the biggest venues of his career thanks to Taylor Swift, who’s bringing the rising folk star on the road for her upcoming 1989 world tour. As a thank-you of sorts to T-Swift, Joy has shared a cover of “I Know Places,” the soaring pop-rock non-single from her blockbuster 1989 album.
Unlike Swift’s rendition of “I Know Places,” Joy’s take on the track features just an acoustic guitar, vocals and a whole lot of yearning. Whereas the 1989 track sounds triumphant in its assertion of private romance, the cover finds Joy approaching the song with a sense of desperation, pleading, “Just grab my hand and don’t ever drop it/My love, they are the hunters, we are the foxes/And we run.”
“I’m really excited about spending the coming months on tour with the incredible Taylor Swift,” Joy wrote on Facebook. “Feel lucky indeed. Here is a cover of one of my favourite tracks from 1989. ?#?1989WorldTour?”
Prior to the announcement that Joy was joining Swift on tour, the pop superstar covered the singer-songwriter’s breakout hit, “Riptide.” Joy’s stint as Swift’s tour opener kicks off on May 20 in Bossier City, La.
