In his new music video for “Wild” featuring Alessia Cara, released Friday (July 22), the 21-year-old Aussie is very much staying on-brand depicting magical scenes capturing young love and the emotions of excitement that begin in a new relationship.

“We shot this music video that basically just profiles love in a couple of young relationships and young love,” Sivan told Billboard during the SweeTarts & Entertainment Weekly Con-X Comic-Con preview night free concert on Wednesday in San Diego. “For me, the song is always about those initial butterflies you get when you meet someone new. I wanted to capture that and capture it in a bunch of different ways and show people that love is love no matter what form it’s in.”
Earlier Friday, Sivan sent some of his fans around the world out to capture a bit of that same magical feeling of youthful adventure with a scavenger hunt in search of VHS tapes containing “Wild” video, giving fans a chance to view the video prior to its digital release.
Sivan and Cara’s collaboration came about due to the two artist’s friendship — or as Sivan calls them “text buddies.” Cara stopped while on her tour to record “Wild,” thus forming the collaboration of the two young artists who push for self-love in all forms. The two reunited in Cara’s hometown Toronto to shoot the video as well and Sivan said he hopes they can get a chance to work together again.

“Alessia hopped on my song ‘Wild’ and recorded her own verse and absolutely smashed it out of the park, took the whole song to a completely different level and place,” he said. “I would love to do more with Alessia, I think she is just such a sweet person and we get along so well.”
The YouTuber-turned-pop singer’s free San Diego concert with SweeTarts sold out in minutes of its announcement. Held during Comic-Con’s week of events at Horton Plaza Park in San Diego during sunset, giving fans of his music and his role on X-Men Origins: Wolverine a chance to come together for a day of candy, music and comics.
Speaking of SweeTarts’ new Follow Your TART campaign that features Sivan, explained his appreciation its message promoting “going after what your passion is about and doing what your passion is about and doing it fearlessly. That’s something that I definitely try and incorporate into my everyday life and try and push my audience to do the same thing.”

Aside from Cara, Sivan also teased some other artists he hopes to work with some day, including Taylor Swift and Lorde. And prior to his Wednesday show, he live-tweeted to fans revealing his hope to write with Nick Jonas someday as well (to which Jonas responded, “I’m down! Anytime!”)
“I would love to write with [Jonas],” he said. “I think he’s so good. We met at the Billboard Awards and sort of like spent the night hanging out, and he’s such a nice guy as well.”
Sivan was named Kia’s “One To Watch” at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards. The performance brought Sivan significant attention, saying it “changed [his] life. It’s probably like the pinnacle of everything that I’ve worked for thus far.”
For now, Sivan continues touring for his Blue Neighbourhood album. The Blue Neighbourhood Tour takes Sivan to Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, Norway and finally back to North America on Oct. 16 in San Francisco, CA. Sivan’s brother Tyde Levi is joining Sivan to DJ along the tour.
