The Veronicas are back, and they’re all grown up.
The sibling duo has released the full-length music video for “You Ruin Me,” the first track lifted from their upcoming third studio album.
It’s an intense breakup ballad which comes from an altogether different place than the Origliasso twins’ 2007 electo-pop hit “Untouched”.
The Veronicas Sign Global Deal With Sony Music, New Album Coming
Written with APRA Award winning production team DNA Songs (David Musumeci and Anthony Egizii), “You Ruin Me” is a musical statement of Jessica and Lisa’s maturity. The song concentrates on the Australian sisters’ vocal talents, it’s built on keys and fleshed-out with a lush orchestral production, and there’s not a single beat to be found.
The dramatic video, inspired by Darren Aronofsky’s dark 2010 feature film Black Swan and shot at Sydney’s State Theatre, follows a band of jealous ballerinas and their unscupulous dance instructor (who gets it in the end).
The clip was posted Thursday on YouTube with the comment, “We’re Back!” Watch it below:
The 29-year-olds have spent the past two years traveling the globe and writing and recording their new self-titled album, due later this year through Sony Music.
The Brisbane born-and-raised pair was originally signed by Sire founder Seymour Stein and developed in the United States, though their biggest following has always been in their homeland, where their two studio albums are certified multi-platinum and both peaked at No. 2 (2005’s The Secret Life Of… and Hook Me Up).
International success came with “Untouched” (Engineroom/Sire/ Warner Bros). The song reached No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2009, making the Veronicas the first Australian pop act to crack the top 20 since Kylie Minogue peaked at No. 7 in March 2002 with “Can’t Get You out of My Head.” “Untouched” has sold more than 1.7 million downloads worldwide, according to reps for the pair, and it reignited interest in its album, which peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Heatseeker Chart. They split with Warner in 2013.
