Electropop duo Terror Jr has debuted an irresistible new track titled “Kinda Iconic,” premiering exclusively on Billboard today (Jan. 24). The song arrives on the eve of the band’s debut full-length album Unfortunately, Terror Jr.
The duo’s Lisa Vitale lends her raspy vocals to the track, juxatposing the upbeat, synth-pop melody. “Ooh, a shiny new object, they say you gotta try it/ It’s kinda iconic,” Vitale tempts.
“Kinda Iconic” follows the release of the similarly-veined single “Pretty” and its provcative accompanying video.
Of the 15-track Unfortunately, Terror Jr, the band tells Billboard by email that making the record wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows, but they couldn’t be more thrilled with the end result. “The experience of creating this album was challenging . . . Anxiety-inducing . . . Filled with many nights of doubt that we’d ever complete it and like it . . . But now we love it and we’re proud . . . We hope that comes through in these songs,” Vitale and bandmate David “Campa” Benjamin Singer-Vine write.
The record sees the duo combining their danceable sound with sociopolitical themes, such as women’s reproductive rights, LGBT rights and substance abuse. Songs like “A-OK (Everything’s Perfect)” includes telling lyrics such as, “These days got me in a slump/ White women voted for Trump,” proving that Terror Jr won’t shy away from their bold messages any time soon.
Unfortunately, Terror Jr drops tomorrow (Jan. 25). Get a first listen of “Kinda Iconic” below.
