Tegan and Sara will perform at this year’s first annual The Village Voice Pride Awards, sponsored by Netflix’s Sense8, set to take place June 21 in New York City. The event will “honor local and global heroes in the LGBTQ movement working for progress for the community.”
In a statement, Tegan and Sara said, “Pride is a good time for us to come together and celebrate our wins, but also strategize how we can change the things that still need to be changed. We’re thrilled to have the chance to play the Pride Awards because we love New York, we love The Village Voice, and we love Pride. We’re excited to lend our voices to the cause.”
Tegan and Sara have been using their voices and platform to speak up for equality for years. Most recently, they launched the Tegan and Sara Foundation which is committed to “advancing feminism, as well as racial, social and gender justice, by fighting the inequality that prevents LGBTQ girls and women from realizing their full potential.”
The duo will also perform at New York’s Pride Island event on Saturday, June 24. For more information on The Village Voice Pride Awards, check out their Facebook page.
