Taylor Swift‘s fans are one of pop music’s most devoted fandoms, and like her squad, she has quite a few celebrity Swifties. One fan in particular that goes back several years is Oklahoma City Thunder star Russell Westbrook, who Swift recently congratulated in a new video following his MVP win at the 2017 NBA Awards Monday night (June 26).
Over the years, Westbrook hasn’t been shy to share his love for Swift’s pop bangers via social media and has even attended some of the singer’s concerts. Although the two have yet to meet, Swift finally returned the love with her surprise video — and as Westbrook celebrates his MVP win and Swift’s shout-out, we decided to round up all the times he gave her some love.
June 2013: Westbrook uses his ACL injury recovery time to share his love for Swift
In the midst of being unable to play due to knee surgery (after tearing his meniscus in the playoffs), Westbrook found a little solace in Swift’s music — even using his crutches as an air guitar — and posting it on then-popular video sharing app Vine.
May 2015: Westbrook jams to “Bad Blood”
Back in May 2015 when “Bad Blood” was killing the charts, Westbrook shared a video of himself rocking out to the 1989 track, bringing his love for Swift’s music back to the forefront.
August 2015: Westbrook Attends a Taylor Swift Concert
Later in the summer of 2015, Westbrook attended a Swift’s 1989 Tour at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and proved that he wasn’t just feeling “Bad Blood,” but he was a true Swiftie. In a video he shared on Instagram, the basketball star sang along to “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” on the arena floor.
September 2015: Westbrook gushes over Swift during a visit to Jimmy Kimmel Live!
After Kimmel’s band played “Shake It Off” as Westbrook made his way to Kimmel’s couch, he called Swift “the best” and then continued to express his love. “Her music is so catchy, every song is very, very catchy for me.”
August 2016: Westbrook sings some Swift on Snapchat
?Exactly a year after Westbrook attended one of Swift’s concerts, he posted a video of himself on Snapchat rocking out to the same hit Red track he danced to at her show showing his admiration for the singer’s music.

June 2017: Swift sends video message to Westbrook
Following Westbrook’s win of MVP at the 2017 NBA Awards on Monday (June 26), his team the Oklahoma City Thunder shared a video message from Taylor Swift congratulating him on his award. In the video, Swift jokes about their friendship that “goes way back” and later admits that despite never meeting him, she wanted to say congrats, showing that the fanship is mutual. All of the TSwift admiration Westbrook had shown over the years finally paid off!
