As if a new album, Miss Americana documentary and next year’s Lover Fest stadium shows weren’t enough, Taylor Swift announced on Thursday morning (Dec. 5) that she’s just written a Christmas song.
The song and video for “Christmas Tree Farm” will drop at midnight on Thursday. “Pretty wild, but I’ve just written a Christmas song,” Swift says in a tweet.
“I feel like it’s weird to just like wait a year to put it out.” She seems torn about releasing the song, so Tay does what anyone would do in her situation: she asks her cat Meredith what to do. “Should I put out a Christmas song, like, now?” The video will also air on Good Morning America on Friday morning (Dec. 6).
The singer’s tweet revealed that the visual will be made up of home movies, writing, “When in doubt, ask the itty bitty pretty kitty committee. When they shun you with silence, ambivalence, and judgmental brush offs… just put the song out anyway.” Swift released the Taylor Swift Holiday Collection EP in October 2007; it featured covers of George Michael’s “Last Christmas,” “White Christmas,” “Silent Night,” “Santa Baby” and the originals “Christmases When You Were Mine” and “Christmas Must Be Something More.”
Swift will become the first-ever recipient of Billboard‘s Woman of the Decade Award at the 2019 Women in Music Event on Dec. 12.
