Update: Nicki Minaj responded.
Taylor Swift apologized to Nicki Minaj Thursday morning (July 23) in the wake of the online firestorm that’s been going on for the past 48 hours that began when Minaj tweeted her disappointment about not receiving a Video of the Year nomination for “Anaconda.”
“I thought I was being called out. I missed the point, I misunderstood, then misspoke. I’m sorry, Nicki,” Swift tweeted.

Swift’s apology follows a back and forth that started with Swift responding to Minaj’s original tweet, and Minaj explaining she wasn’t calling Swift out personally and was instead trying to highlight the challenges minority artists face getting the same recognition as some of their peers.
Yesterday, other artists weighed in on the controversy as well, most notably Katy Perry.
