Fans have been patiently waiting for psychedelic pop band Tame Impala to return and release a follow up to their 2015 Currents, and it looks like they won’t have to wait much longer.
On Saturday (July 21) in an interview with Beats 1’s Matt Wilkinson, Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker gave updates on his work with Kanye West, SZA, and Travis Scott, as well as confirming plans for the band’s next album.
The lead singer also talked about the three songs recorded with SZA and Mark Ronson and added that he “can’t really do anything more than hope” that everything will be officially released soon. Parker said he’s “ready to play some other songs live” and “will be very disappointed” if a new album isn’t out next summer.
Parker also shared that he spent some time in the studio with rapper Travis Scott and that he’s be also very open to working with Arctic Monkeys singer Alex Turner.
The Australian pop rocker also confronted the confusion around his role in the creation of Kanye’s latest album ye. Parker told the interviewer his work was sampled on the track “Ghost Town,” then backtracked, and later confirmed he’s actually credited on “Violent Crimes.” He told Wilkinson, “Kanye’s in his space throwing ideas, taking ideas out, putting this with this, seeing if that works, He might not even know who worked on the song or which part is going to end up on the song until the last minute.”
