On Thursday night (Oct. 1), Stromae will do the darn-near-impossible: the Belgian singer-songwriter will headline New York’s Madison Square Garden as a non-English-speaking artist, and without anything resembling a U.S. radio hit. Oh, and the arena show — which will also feature special guests Janelle Monae and Jidenna — is officially sold out.
As Stromae continues his slow takeover of the States, the enigmatic artist has continued his “Stromae Takes America” video series with a new San Francisco-based episode, premiering exclusively on Billboard.com. Check it out below:
In the video, Stromae commands his merry band from the backseat of a moving truck, and breaks down the song “Ave Cesaria” piece by piece — that is, until the cops stop them in their tracks! Unfortunately the police prevent Stromae and co. from performing in front of the Golden Gate Bridge, but they do nevertheless perform (in a stationary truck, out of necessity).
“Ave Cesaria” is featured on Stromae’s 2013 album Racine carrée, which was released in the U.S. on Republic Records. The French-speaking star has been performing across North America over the past few months.
