It’s been a tumultuous year for singer Sinead O’Connor. After a series of scary incidents in which she was reported missing in the Chicago suburbs and penned a vicious open letter to her ex-husband and oldest son berating them for their treatment of her, O’Connor revealed to her Facebook followers on Sunday (Oct. 23) that she’s just completed a 30-day stint in a rehab facility.
“I was in rehab by the way,” she wrote. “For thirty years of being a weed head. Can proudly state I now have clean piss and will be in a ‘sober living environment’ for the next year.” O’Connor said the sober living facility will have a “complete support system” and that she’s proud of herself for surviving “34 years in music business and the s–t that’s gone on for the last year… it’s a miracle I wasn’t on every drug.”
The rehab stay for the 49-year-old “Nothing Compares 2 U” singer came after O’Connor also reported that she had to go to the emergency room this weekend after complications from recent hormone replacement surgery during which she said her liver accidentally “got cut.”
On Oct. 21, O’Connor wrote: “Still feeling so miserable from surgery. I don’t recommend it Lost awful lot of blood as liver got cut accidentally so am weak as F–k. But I do recommend hormone replacement. Am Different person. Stupid Irish doctors never recommended it to me all year but I finally got it two weeks ago in US and am me again. Thank you to doctor here in America. And thank you to my surgeon.”
Two days later she wrote that she was “sore as f–k… inside and out,” saying she got some lovely flowers after a trying year. Hours later things sounded more serious. “Gotta go to emergency. Liver all f—ed and killing me,” she worte. “Can’t breathe properly it so sore. Am posting as am lonely. Story of life. Wish was not so alone in world. Gotta be worth something to someone after all these years and after all I given. Am so shocked to be so all alone.”
A spokesperson for O’Connor could not be reached for comment at press time.
